2020 Nissan Versa: The Best Car You Can Buy Under $20,000

June 24th, 2020 by

The 2020 Nissan Versa is turning a brand new page. For a long time, the model was among the least expensive you could buy in the US, but with its low price tag came a lot of criticism, ultimately fueling the model to plummet in popularity. These days, the Nissan Versa is not only the brand’s smallest sedan, but it’s also among the models that recently received a complete redesign. These days, the Nissan Versa retains its crown as one of the least expensive models available, but according to CarBuzz, it’s also one of the best new cars available under $20,000 — here’s why:

The 2020 Nissan Versa is much more aesthetically pleasing than its predecessor as it relies on Nissan’s “Emotional Geometry” design. The “Emotional Geometry” Nissan is referring to is the common styling elements such as the V-motion grille, floating roofline, and boomerang headlights and taillights that can be found on all of its models. The addition of such bold styling is a clear and dramatic improvement when compared to the outgoing generation. Additionally, the top-tier Nissan Versa SR includes LED headlights, a small lip spoiler, and 17-inch alloy wheels — pretty impressive for a model that continues to sell for under $20,000.

The technology available on the 2020 Versa is the same that’s included in plenty of the brand’s other models. It doesn’t matter that the Nissan Versa is the least expensive model in the lineup, what matters is that the SV and SR trims of the Nissan Versa include Nissan Safety Shield 360, the brand’s advanced automotive tech that bundles a backup camera, Pedestrian Detection, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind-Spot Monitoring, Rear-Cross Traffic Alerts, and High Beam Assist. Additional features such as adaptive cruise control and heated seats are available for an additional $300.

Nissan offers a standard infotainment system that includes a 7-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto capabilities, along with handsfree Bluetooth connectivity — allowing buyers access to the most up-to-date infotainment features available. There’s even a cool digital tachometer that displays not only infotainment information, but trip and car information as well.

Perhaps the biggest perk of owning a 2020 Nissan Versa is the fuel economy figures. Yes, the Versa is a relatively compact vehicle, so good fuel economy numbers are of the essence nowadays. The 2020 Versa is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 122 horsepower and 114 lb-ft of torque — a 12 and seven percent increase respectively when compared to the previous generation. Nissan claims the Versa’s fuel economy is 32 mpg in the city, 40 mpg on the highway, and a combined 35 mpg, but some experts noted that on 45-50 mph roads with limited traffic, the 2020 Versa was getting more than 51 mpg.
