Nissan Adds Some Flair to the 2020 Pathfinder

March 27th, 2020 by

Experts agree that the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder is more of a city crawler than a rock crawler, as the midsize SUV shifted away from its rugged body-on-frame base back in 2012. The Pathfinder now competes in a crowded field that includes other three-row midsize crossovers such as the Toyota Highlander, the Hyundai Palisade, and the Honda Pilot among others. Although not much has changed for the Pathfinder since the fourth-generation launched eight years ago, Nissan is now introducing special edition packages that are aimed at recapturing the Pathfinder’s rugged past. Nissan recently introduced a new Pathfinder Rock Creek Special Edition — here’s what prospective buyers can look forward to from the Rock Creek package.

Trim Levels & Pricing

Nissan offers the Rock Creek package on a variety of drivetrains, trims and colors. The package itself will set buyers back only $995 and is available on the SV and SL trims in both front- and all-wheel-drive configurations. When sold individually, all the features in the package would exceed $2,310. On the SV trim, buyers can enjoy the Rock Creek Edition Technology Package that includes a heated steering wheel, heated mirrors, navigation, and heated partial cloth front seats. The package on the SL trim includes the aforementioned features and adds LED low-beam headlights, a bird’s eye camera system, and heated leather seats. Additionally, those who opt for the Pathfinder SL can invest $2,110 more on the Rock Creek Edition Premium Package that includes a panoramic sunroof and a 13-speaker Bose audio system.

All 2020 Pathfinder vehicles come standard with the same 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The V6 engine is capable of generating up to 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque, while the Pathfinder is rated to tow up to 6,000 pounds, about 1,000 more pounds than its competitors. Although not modern by comparison, the Pathfinder still achieves excellent fuel economy with 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway — much higher than its modern contemporaries.

Exterior Updates

Buyers who opt for the Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition can enjoy a more aggressive exterior that makes the vehicle look less like a minivan alternative and more of a capable off-roader. The package adds unique 18-inch wheels, a unique lower fascia, black molded fenders, a black mesh grille, black roof rails, and all-season tires. In addition, the package also adds plenty of other blacked out accents such as a license plate finisher, model badges, door handles, mirrors and even a blacked out 4WD badge (when equipped). Splash guards and a trailer tow hitch with a harness are also included in the package.
